Mayakovsky:
The Slanting Rain
An Original Salida Productions and Mercury Theatre Co-production
MAYAKOVSKY: THE SLANTING RAIN
By Andrew Rattenbury
Director Michael Vale
Performed by Ed Hughes
Vladimir Mayakovsky: poet; artist; playwright... a leading figure in the Russian Futurist movement, self proclaimed spokesman of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution and an opponent of the bureaucracy until his suicide in 1930. Eccentric, unpredictable, with a keen sense of the ridiculous, he was the master showman.
The Mercury Theatre Company joins Salida Productions for this gripping play, following their hugely successful co-production of Romeo and Juliet in 2010.
"Mayakovsky played successfully at the RSC as part of a "World Elsewhere" Season in January 2013.”
REVIEWS
"Ed Hughes gives Mayakovsky whiplash energy to an almost frightening degree... It´s a finely detailed performance of immense intensity. It deserves an afterlife.
WHATSONSTAGE"
